WELCOME TO DISCOVERING CHIMPANZEES: A Guide for Teachers and Students. This website complements Science North's first major travelling exhibition, Discovering Chimpanzees: The Remarkable World of Jane Goodall.

This exhibition premiered at Science North, in Sudbury, Canada in May. This stunning exhibit brings you to the tropical forest of Gombe, Africa, where you can climb into a chimp nest, fish for termites and compare yourself to other primates.

This website assists teachers and educators in learning about the fascinating world of primates. The content is aimed at students ages 6 to 12. All of the material has been formatted to download in a pdf format and to use directly in the classroom.

Rebecca Rose, (Education Liaison, Chimpanzee Species Survival Plan, American Zoo and Aquarium Association) , is the original author of this material in conjunction with Chimp Haven Inc. Support for the production of the material was made possible by the Conservation Committee (AZA) and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Ohio (USA) where Rebecca is the Field Conservation Coordinator.

Chimp Haven is a chimp sanctuary under development in Shreveport, Louisiana, USA.

Chimp Haven's mission is "to provide a humane, cost effective environment for the lifetime care of chimpanzees no longer needed in research, entertainment, or as pets. At Chimp Haven the chimpanzees will live in spacious naturalistic outdoor habitats as part of a community."
